Michael Jordan Shuts Down “Blue Wave” Talk On Newsmax: “Not One Of Them Has Prepared To Become Communists”

Michael Jordan isn’t buying the “blue wave” talk for November. The basketball legend, who has spent most of his career staying out of politics, broke his silence in an interview with Newsmax this week. Asked whether he expected Democrats to sweep the midterms, Jordan laughed.

“I’m surrounded by average Americans,” Jordan said. “Not one of them has prepared to switch sides and become communists.”

For a man who once famously said “Republicans buy sneakers, too,” it was a rare look at where he stands. Jordan said he talks to plenty of regular people, from the staff at his golf course to the guys he fishes with in North Carolina, and he hasn’t heard anyone say they’re itching for a big change to the left.

“These are hardworking people,” he said. “They want lower prices, safe streets, and a fair shot. They aren’t looking for the government to run their lives.”

Jordan didn’t claim Republicans would have it easy. He said he believes Democrats will pick up a few seats in purple states, mostly thanks to voters who don’t understand why gas prices are so high. “Some folks just look at the pump and blame whoever’s in charge,” he said. “They don’t stop to ask why.”

But a sweeping leftward swing? Jordan isn’t seeing it.

“It’s ridiculous,” he said.

Pundits on cable news have spent weeks predicting a Democratic surge, pointing to special election results and fundraising numbers. Republicans have pushed back, saying the polls are missing the frustration many voters feel about the cost of living and crime in big cities.

Jordan’s comments landed right in the middle of that fight. Conservative commentators were thrilled to hear one of the most famous athletes in history push back on the media narrative. Many shared the clip with captions like “The GOAT has spoken.”

Some fans were surprised. Jordan has always guarded his public image carefully, rarely weighing in on hot-button issues. People who know him say he hasn’t changed. He just got tired of hearing the same predictions over and over.

“Michael is competitive,” a longtime friend said. “He hates when people declare a winner before the game is played.”

Not everyone was happy. A few progressive commentators accused Jordan of looking down on voters, and some on social media said he should stick to basketball. Others noted that he owns businesses in several swing states and might have his own reasons to care about the outcome.

Jordan didn’t seem to mind the reaction. At the end of the interview, the host asked if he had a prediction for election night.

“I’m not a pollster,” Jordan said with a smile. “But I know a bad shot when I see one.” Air Jordan has spoken.
