Elon Musk: “The 3 AM Oil Is Being Burned” to get Tesla’s Next FSD Beta Iteration Out

If you have been hiding under a rock, you should know that Tesla introduced the next edition of the company’s complete self-driving software in late 2020. It was given the name FSD Beta. This software version of Tesla’s Autopilot represents a substantial architectural redesign and, unlike earlier incarnations of Autopilot, necessitates the merging of all views from 8 cameras into a vector space that the vehicle utilizes to carry out driving in the actual world.

To put it simply, the new software assembles pictures from the 8 cameras to produce a representation of the actual environment, and the car utilizes this virtual representation of the real world to make driving judgments. With the new strategy, Tesla has made it feasible for cars to operate in more complicated driving situations, such as roundabouts, unprotected left turns, and surface streets, which were previously unachievable with the company’s earlier Autopilot software.

To the approximately 3000 participants in the company’s Early Access Program, Tesla first made FSD Beta available. Nevertheless, that figure has already surpassed 100,000 automobiles, and Elon Musk has said that by the end of this year, FSD Beta would be used by 1 million Teslas.

Since the first release of FSD Beta in late 2020, the program has undergone a number of improvements that have enhanced its functionality and slickness. Tesla is running FSD Beta 10.12 at the moment. With the introduction of this edition of FSD Beta at the end of May, Tesla has made a number of advancements that will move the company one step closer to its aim of having the software take over all aspects of driving.

Despite this, FSD Beta 10.12 is still a long way from becoming a level 5 completely autonomous solution, and the software still needs significant development to achieve full self-driving capabilities. Tesla engineers are working very hard to make this dream come true, which is good news for those of us who can’t wait for cars to drive themselves.

Elon Musk repeated this view today when asked when FSD Beta 10.13 would be released, adding “the 3 am oil is being burnt to get this out.” Musk is stressing the labor-intensive process that went into creating the FSD Beta software by modifying the expression “burning the midnight oil” to “3 AM oil.”

Some individuals may find it frustrating that Elon Musk did not provide a timeframe for the release of the next FSD Beta software. But considering that Tesla is attempting an unprecedented feat, the fact that the EV manufacturer is giving it all they’ve got should be the most we can expect for.

The level 5 autonomy of Tesla’s FSD Beta software is now being achieved with ease. However, it is hard to predict with certainty when the EV manufacturer will hit that threshold. We will make sure to notify you as soon as Tesla publishes new FSD Beta updates, however.
