Elon Musk has never been shy about who he does not like. This week, he made it very clear that George Soros is near the top of that list.
In a late-night post that quickly racked up millions of views, Musk let loose.
“I’m sick and tired of watching him mess with our elections.”
It wasn’t a throwaway line.
“I’m sick and tired of him messing with our elections,” he added a few minutes later, in case anyone missed it. Musk followed it with a string of posts laying out why he feels the billionaire financier has too much influence over American politics. He pointed to the huge amounts of money Soros and his network have poured into political groups, campaigns, and district attorney races over the years, and he argued that one man’s checkbook should not carry that much weight.
“Nobody elected him,” Musk wrote in one follow-up. “But he spends like he wants to run the whole thing.”
Musk has gone after Soros before, but this was one of his sharpest rants yet. Fans of the Tesla and SpaceX boss loved every word of it. Critics called it overheated and pointed out that Musk himself spends plenty of money on politics.
Musk’s answer to that was simple. He said at least he does it out in the open and puts his own name on it.
“That’s the difference Elon is trying to draw,” said Alex Bruno, a political commentator who hosts a popular online show. “His view is that Soros has built this massive web of groups and donations that most voters never see. You can agree or disagree, but he’s not hiding where he stands.”
Soros’s defenders were quick to push back. They said his donations are legal, public, and no different from what other wealthy donors do on both sides of the aisle. A spokesperson for his foundation has said in the past that Soros supports causes he believes in, like any donor.
None of that slowed down the conversation online. Musk’s post turned into one of the most-discussed topics of the day. Supporters filled the replies with memes, and a lot of them asked the same question.
“Who else hopes Elon finally does something about it?” one user wrote, and the post was shared tens of thousands of times.
What exactly Musk would do is anyone’s guess. He has hinted before that he is willing to spend his own fortune backing candidates and causes he believes in, and some fans think this is his way of saying he is gearing up for the next big fight.
Others think it was just Musk being Musk, firing off a strong opinion at midnight and letting the internet do the rest.
Either way, it worked. Soros was trending for hours, and Musk’s name was right next to his.
The two men could hardly be more different. One is a rocket-building tech mogul who posts all day long. The other is a reclusive financier in his nineties who rarely speaks in public. But on one thing, Musk has made himself clear. He’s done staying quiet about it.
