The Perseverance rover from NASA, which has returned stunning images from Mars, has been a huge benefit for the space agency. Scientists’ understanding of the surroundings and topography of the planet has greatly benefited by the images. Now, the Mars Rover has discovered a particularly intriguing piece of debris in the form of what it calls “spaghetti.”
The image was taken by the rover’s front-facing danger avoidance cameras, but the precise nature of the item was not known to the scientists. The majority of analysts think it may be yet another piece of NASA mission debris. Last month, the rover snapped a photo of a sparkling thing it thought it had discovered on the floor of Mars’ Jezero Crater, but it turned out to be a piece of trash that the rover had really left behind.
After seeing the popular image of the shiny item, the Perseverance team tweeted, “My crew has noticed something unexpected: It’s a fragment of a thermal blanket that they believe may have come from my descent stage, the rocket-powered jet pack that put me down on landing day back in 2021.”
When it comes to space travel, space junk is a pretty prevalent issue, and when it comes to Mars, a lot of the trash actually comes from the expedition rovers that were launched from Earth. Aerial photographs taken earlier by Perseverance revealed enormous volumes of debris coming from wrecks. The quest for life has not stopped since the Mars Rover’s first anniversary on the planet in February of this year.
