These days, operating Tesla or SpaceX is less Elon Musk’s real job than becoming viral, since the billionaire’s effort to purchase Twitter and harass users has generated more headlines than whatever those businesses, which he actually owns, are actually putting on the market. However, one of his genuine business moves seems to have gone poorly.
At the beginning of the month, Musk ordered that all Tesla workers work from the office, nullifying any work-from-home initiatives that had been put in place at the beginning of the still-ongoing coronavirus outbreak. Some people were outraged by the news since they saw working from home as a flexible answer to the demands of the job on a daily basis. It’s not for everyone, of course, but creating it for everyone seemed a little too extreme.
And based on what it really meant for workers who had been brought back into the office, the directive was wholly premature, according to an article in The Information. Musk threatened to dismiss workers who did not mainly enter an office to work, as The Verge said. But there are just not enough desks for workers at Tesla since so many individuals are cramming into the offices in an effort to avoid being dismissed.
The Information was informed by current Tesla workers that it was difficult to locate parking at the Fremont facility for those who drove to work. Some apparently chose to leave their vehicles at the neighboring BART station and take a Tesla shuttle to work instead.
Some employees reportedly didn’t even have a seat inside the workplace, according to The Information. According to reports, the business didn’t plan for a bigger crew and chose to repurpose certain office spaces during the epidemic. According to The Information, supervisors advised certain staff to work from home nevertheless since the desk situation was so awful. The Wi-Fi connection was too weak for workers to work, even if they could sit down.
According to the report, Musk did seem to relax his office requirements in order to accommodate “extraordinary” workers who preferred to work from home. However, it seems that unless Tesla orders extra desks and chairs, only the really early will actually have any place to sit.
