Montecito, CA — Meghan Markle offered a heartwarming glimpse into family life with Prince Harry and their two children just days after the Duke of Sussex faced a significant legal loss in the United Kingdom.
In a photo shared to Instagram on May 3, Prince Harry, 40, is seen walking hand-in-hand with 5-year-old Prince Archie through a vibrant garden, while 3-year-old Princess Lilibet rests on his shoulders. The tender moment—captured from behind—was likely taken by Meghan, 43, who was walking just a few steps behind her husband and children. The image, absent of a caption, quietly reflected the family’s peaceful life in California.
The post came one day after a British court ruled against Harry’s appeal to reinstate state-funded security for himself and his family during potential visits to the U.K. The decision affirms the government’s previous stance that, since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Sussexes are no longer entitled to official police protection while in Britain.
Speaking to the BBC on May 2 following the ruling, Harry acknowledged that the lack of security makes it difficult—if not impossible—for him to envision returning home with Meghan and their children.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d feel safe bringing my wife and kids back to the U.K.,” Harry said from California. “And what they’ll miss is everything. I’ve always loved my country, despite what certain people there have done.”
Harry, who has remained largely estranged from his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William, admitted he’s saddened by what his children may never experience.

“I miss the U.K.,” he said. “Of course I do. It’s hard knowing I won’t get to show Archie and Lilibet the place I grew up in.”
Despite royal tensions and ongoing legal battles, Harry and Meghan continue to build a fulfilling life in Montecito, California. The couple has carved out a private space to raise their children, focusing on wellness, philanthropy, and creative projects.
Appearing on an April 28 episode of the Jamie Kern Lima Show, Meghan opened up about her husband and the life they’ve created together.
“H, that man loves me so much,” she said. “And look at what we’ve built. We’ve created something really beautiful—two happy, healthy kids and a peaceful home.”
While the Sussexes may not be returning to royal life anytime soon, their California sanctuary remains a place of healing and growth.
