In a bold and unexpected move, Elon Musk announced today that every Tesla sold will come with a free premium gas stove. The move is seen as a response to the recent push by governments around the world to phase out fossil fuel-powered vehicles and promote electric vehicles.
“We know that many of our customers are passionate about their freedom to choose how they power their vehicles,” said Musk in a statement.
“So, in light of the recent efforts to phase out fossil fuels, we decided to give our customers a way to still enjoy the traditional comforts of gas-powered appliances. That’s why we’re giving away a ‘banned’ premium gas stove with every Tesla.”
The move has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising Musk for standing up for freedom and others criticizing him for promoting the use of fossil fuels.
“It’s a brilliant move,” said one Tesla owner. “I don’t want the government telling me what kind of car I can drive, and now I can cook my steak the way I like it too.”
However, environmentalists have a different take on the matter. “This is a ridiculous and irresponsible move,” said one environmental activist. “Promoting the use of fossil fuels in any way is a step in the wrong direction and only serves to delay the transition to clean energy.”
Despite the backlash, Musk seems determined to go forward with the promotion. “We will give away as many gas stoves as it takes to stick it to the man,” he tweeted.
It remains to be seen if the promotion will have any effect on Tesla’s sales, but one thing is for sure: Musk is not backing down without a fight.
