Elon Musk says ex-President Donald Trump Had No Influence Over Decision To Buy Twitter

The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, has categorically rejected reports that former President Donald Trump had any role in his decision to acquire Twitter. An allegation made by the CEO of a Trump-connected app, Truth Social, that they had persuaded Musk to make the purchase led to Musk’s denial of the accusation.

“This is incorrect. I have had no contact with Trump, either directly or indirectly, despite the fact that he has officially stated that he will only be on TRUTH Social “Musk expressed himself on Twitter. After a recent interview with Fox Business in which Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes, a former Republican legislator, and staunch Trump supporter, alleged that the previous president pressured Musk into buying out Twitter, Musk responded by denying the allegation.

In an interview with Fox News on May 4, Nunes said that “President Trump, effectively before Elon Musk purchased it, literally said go and get it because the aim of our firm is truly to develop a community where people can be in a family-friendly, safe atmosphere.” Nunes went on to say that Musk was pushed to pursue the buyout in order to take on the “tech tyrants,” and that it was Trump’s goal to “ensure that the American people get their voice back” online that prompted Musk to pursue the buyout in the first place.

As he said, “someone like Elon Musk doing what he’s doing, we think that’s fantastic, and we support him.” Musk has never acknowledged that he was influenced in any way by outside forces in his decision to acquire Twitter. In his statement, the world’s wealthiest man said that his decision was motivated by a desire to defend free expression from what he views to be the present anti-democratic stance of social media corporations.

President Trump, who has been barred from using Twitter since January 2021, has declared that he supports Musk’s intention to purchase the social media network. However, as Musk pointed out, the former president made it apparent that he intended to continue working with Truth Social in the future.

The president added in a statement on April 25 that he hoped Elon would purchase Twitter because “he’ll make changes to it and he is a terrific guy,” but that he would continue to use the word “TRUTH.” Despite Trump’s pledge to stick to his own social media platform, some aides believe he would return to Twitter “in a heartbeat” if it meant regaining control of what was once his most potent platform.
